I Hate The Police – You ever look back on your life and think…WOW crazy how things change? I think it is normal, the majority of people experience this thought on a regular basis.

This happened to me the other day when two police officers came to my inspirational session I held at ‘The Forest High School’. For me this was crazy, I remember back when I was a teenager I had an awful attitude, hated the world and everyone in it, most definitely despised the police, I didn’t want to be around them, for no real reason either.

But I guess it is not cool liking the police, it is a common trend too, especially within the UK. However I was in the wrong all the time, involved in things I shouldn’t have been, that is the main reason I hated the police.  I have experienced a shift in mentality over the last 5 years; I believe people could endure on a similar transition, therefore this post goes out to everyone who hates the police, actually I believe officers should take a read too.

For me over the last 24 months I have had several conversations with police officers; including a meeting at the Bristol police HQ and then the 2 officers visiting my talk was the icing on the cake.  Spending time talking to the police I discovered they areI Hate The Police - Schools Motivational Speaker actually normal people haha.

Yes that’s correct they do exactly what any other person does, they have families, eat breakfast in the morning, take their cat out for a walk and watch Eastenders, you know everyday stuff lol. With that said they are also faced with the same challenges as us, some have financial issues, relationship problems, health difficulties the list can go but I’m hoping you can see where I am going with this.

One thing that really opened my eyes is the pressure and stress they are under on a daily basis and even the sights they see. They are present at nearly every emergency, communicating with a wide range of people in the world. They always have to do the ‘right thing’ and make that decision within a split second. Essentially an impossible task to always get it right, cause let’s be honest, have you ever made a bad decision under pressure or in a crazy circumstance?

I thought so, unless you are lying of course haha. I’m not disputing the fact that there aren’t some bad police officers out there, but one or two bad people doesn’t and shouldn’t define everyone who wears that uniform.

To conclude this post; lets stop acting up against the police even when we believe they are in the wrong, Try to understand and sympathise with them, if you feel you have been stopped unfairly or been mistreated don’t react and give them even more reason to annoy you.

Be the polite & friendly individual you are, because that positivity will spread and start to impact many. My man Mahatma Gandhi said it best,

“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”
