Building Successful Teenagers – I really couldn’t care less about simply telling young people to “believe in themselves.” I’m passed that, words will never carry as much weight as action. that is why we are focused on showing teenagers how they can believe in themselves. That’s my focus, my speciality and my drive. Even after 14 years of working in schools and delivering to over 1,000,000 teenagers around the world, I am still learning.

I recently posted this short video, that is what sparked the idea of this blog:

I don’t want to set students up for future failure, and I’m not just talking about the students who are struggling to access the work. I’m also talking about the students who find school relatively easy and are just cruising through Year 11, saying things like, “I don’t really care as long as I pass.”

The problem is they often don’t understand the long term value of honesty, accountability, taking responsibility, building habits and routines, growing competence, improving communication, organisation, taking action, and so much more.

My goal is always to make sure their actions match their ambitions. We all know goal setting can be effective, but it’s nowhere near the most important thing when it comes to performance or even well being. Goals matter, but the systems, strategies, behaviours and standards you build every single day are what really drive long term success….o yh and let’s be honest, motivation is fickle too!

With that said, everything we have said in this blog is exactly what we deliver in all our Dreams 2 Reality Education programmes. We take pride in bringing the whole school community together, we listen, we use data and we implement. In many of my sessions I deliver to teachers, I always crack the joke and say “What’s the biggest room in the world?” then I will follow it up by saying “the room for improvement”.

Yes it is a joke, but there is truth in it. We always need to learn, grow and focus on how we can develop. That is the mindset we have and that is the exact same thing we deliver for all the students we work with. Anyways, we are nearly at the end of the academic year, so have a great one.
