Another day, another podcast, and today I am bringing to you Henry Warren. Henry was brought to my attention by GCSEPod, who is one of my partners within education. A colleague for GCSEPod shared this website with me.
More information about ‘TOTS’: https://turnonthesubtitles.org/
“Did you know that turning on the subtitles for children’s TV programmes can massively improve their literacy? TOTS is a campaign that works with broadcasters, regulators, and governments to get the subtitles turned on and improve literacy levels.
It’s currently helping 322 million kids to read worldwide.”
Before I continue you can watch the podcast below. If you don’t have time to watch the episode then you can also head over to Apple Podcast or Spotify and listen to this episode on the move.
Since I learned more about the benefits and impact of ‘TOTS’, I have turned on the subtitles at home for my two children. After just a couple of minutes, you can see how subtitles can be very effective. Even if you try to ignore them you can’t, and they are not as annoying as I thought they would be haha. Just a small change can make a huge difference, and in my opinion, we don’t have anything to lose.
It was an amazing opportunity to sit down with Henry to discuss this topic further and to dive into Henry’s background. I personally learned a lot and came away from the podcast feeling inspired and ready to continue on my mission. Many of us are in a position where we can have a positive impact on people. Even if we help just one person, it is worth it.
It’s no secret Henry’s work is having a positive impact on millions of people around the world. That is why it is essential you check them out and see the incredible work they are doing. All links below:
