Let me ask you this: do you have a purpose, a real reason to get out of bed everyday, something to live for? Why I ask is because living without something that can push, motivate, and inspire you to do something can be damaging, not only to yourself but to the individuals around you.

The moment I left school I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, I was somewhat programmed to work for my Dad. However that was not my dream, that was his. To be honest I didn’t have a dream, but after working occasional Saturdays and summer holidays when I was younger I just knew that wasn’t it.

I felt lost with it all, especially as I was getting into the wrong crowd and living without my grandmother. I had no purpose; I was lazy, argumentative and was partaking in self-sabotaging behaviours.

My purpose presented itself after I had the opportunity to play a sport I loved in Bristol. My vision changed. To be able to pursue this turning my education around was a must and everyday I needed to work towards becoming a better individual on the field, in the classroom and in life.

People’s purposes will change with time, mine did, whether it was playing sports, getting a university degree, or pursuing my mission to inspire and motivate the youth in the UK.

This is okay as long as you are pursuing something.

From the day I first found a purpose I haven’t stopped waking up everyday chasing something I wanted. Surely that is what life should be all about? Many people get stuck in a rut, barely existing and abiding by the rules of society. Waking up in the morning is a battle, smiling can be a struggle, and the burst of energy we once experienced has disappeared since childhood.

People’s purposes tend to be different and can range from:

  • A’s in school
  • Raising Children
  • Providing as much value for the company I work for.
  • Playing Golf
  • Reading & writing books
  • Volunteering at a homeless shelter.
  • Listening to & creating music
  • Becoming financially independent
  • Starting a new business

Without striving, moving forward, and having something to wake up for, life is a disaster. This is not living. This is merely us dying on the inside. Discover what you love, experience different things and pursue ideas that interest you. The experience and excitement is all part of life and we need to get over this mentality that we will live forever because unfortunately we will not.

This is certainly food for thought…take what you will and until next time, keep inspiring!
