After leaving school with just one GCSE. Chantel went on to graduate from university and spend 24 years working in education. Her story alone challenges one of the biggest problems within modern education. The idea that grades alone define a young person’s future.

Throughout the episode, both Cameron and Chantel reflect on the realities young people are facing today. From pressure and anxiety to behaviour, confidence and identity, the conversation highlights how schools are dealing with far more than academics alone.

One of the strongest themes throughout the podcast is resilience.

Not the social media version of resilience, the real version:

  • Turning up when life feels difficult.
  • Managing pressure.
  • Handling setbacks.
  • Learning how to communicate.
  • Building confidence after failure.

These are the skills many young people are crying out for, yet they are often difficult to measure on a spreadsheet or in a league table.

The conversation also explores ADHD, dyslexia and learning struggles. With honest reflections around how many students disengage from education not because they lack ability, but because they no longer believe they are capable.

Cameron speaks openly about seeing this every single week in schools across the UK. Students who have slowly convinced themselves they are “bad at school” often begin protecting themselves through avoidance, poor behaviour or switching off completely.

As Chantel explains, relationships matter massively in education. Young people are far more likely to engage when they feel understood, listened to and supported by the adults around them. That applies to teachers, parents and school leaders alike.

The podcast also discusses apprenticeships, careers and preparing students for the real world. Both Cameron and Chantel challenge the idea that success only comes through one route. Instead encouraging schools to help students understand the wide range of opportunities available to them.

Communication skills, confidence, emotional regulation and resilience all play a huge role in long term success, both inside and outside of education.

This episode is an honest and reflective conversation that will resonate with teachers, parents, school leaders and anyone passionate about improving outcomes for young people.

At Dreams 2 Reality, these conversations matter because education has to go beyond just grades. The goal is not simply helping students pass exams, but helping them build the mindset, confidence and life skills needed to succeed long after they leave school.
